Sherrills Ford Fire Department Photos

Monday, July 11th, 2011

While visiting my Dad in North Carolina, I was asked if could photograph the apparatus fleet of the local fire rescue department. The Sherrills Ford Terrell FR serves a semi rural area of Catawba County 20 miles north of Charlotte. It is a combination fire rescue department which runs about 1000 calls per year from 4 stations.  Go to http://sftfr.net/ for more. They assembled the fleet on the shores of Lake Norman, a 500 square mile lake of which they cover over 100 miles of shore line.  The nearby Denver Fire Department kindly provided their Aerial Tower which provided a moveable stable platform from which I could work. We waited until dusk to reduce shadows then I shot the photographs.  The firemen then moved all the apparatus to the side lot of Duke Energy’s  Marshall Steam Electrical generating plant which is also in the SFTFR first due area.  It was now well into the evening and the darkness provided for interesting photographs.

A Snowy Night at the Fire House

Thursday, January 27th, 2011

I was helping out at the fire house last night. We ran so many calls I was only able to get a couple hours of sleep. It’s always fun being snowed in at the fire house though, there is always something going on.

When I got home this morning I got to play a little :)

MVFC Open House

Saturday, September 11th, 2010

Here are some images form my volunteer fire company’s open house. There were a lot of fun events and activities including a simulation room burn to show how quickly fire can develop in a home. The Manassas Volunteer Fire Company has an open house every year, this year we had it on the 9th anniversary of the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon.  Some of our members have family in the FDNY and we were all affected by that tragic event.

A Day With Ray

Monday, April 12th, 2010

FDNY’s Lt. Ray McCormack gave a lecture today at the George Washington Masonic Memorial in Alexandria, VA. The lecture was about the advanced firefighting tactics and common mistakes firefighters make on fire scenes. It was a great lecture and I actually learned a lot despite working the entire time. For more information on about the lecture go to the lecture’s website here. View the rest of the photos here.

Playing in the Snow

Saturday, February 6th, 2010
Today we received over 2 feet of snow. I was at my volunteer fire company for the duration of the storm. While I was there I was able to capture some fun photos.
