Originally Nikki, my graphic artist, was going to update my brochure for the 2012 season but unfortunately she had a major family emergency come up so she wasn’t able to finish it. At first I thought I wasn’t going to be able to do much with it but luckily, Erin, was able to take things over and together we published a great brochure! Paul & Theresa’s Family Portraits

Robert & Brittany’s Wedding

Today I photographed Robert & Brittany’s wedding at the National Harbor. It started off a little hectic as President Obama was scheduled to appear at the Gaylord Hotel across from the Marriott where they were staying. We began hair and make up at the Marriott as the men watched football and carried the decorations over to the reception hall. Their ceremony was at Saint Peter’s Church in Waldorf, MD which somehow the limo with the groomsmen beat us to! (still not sure how that happened, haha) Before the ceremony and the women got to the church I was able to take about 20 minutes to take the groom and groomsmen around the church and outside to take photos where I got to see the men unhindered by their female counterparts…and Rob’s “Adam and Eve impression”. The ceremony was a Catholic ceremony but a bit shortened and still very nice. The reception was at the The Sunset Room back at the National Harbor. We didn’t have much time between leaving the church and arriving at the reception hall so I stole Rob and Britt away for about 15 minutes to take pictures outside by the Christmas tree and fireworks that are displayed every Friday evening at the National Harbor. Of course, Rob and Britt said the fireworks were for them, and who am I to disagree? The reception was beautiful, this winter wonderland wedding was everything it should and could have been.

Katherine & Robert’s Wedding

First off, I need to start by saying that for some reason, I had four weddings with the Groom being named Robert…in a row. Is that possible? Apparently. So, Katherine and Robert’s wedding was in NJ where I traveled with my assistant Terra. Their ceremony was held at Kirkpatrick Chapel which is on the Rutgers University campus. After the ceremony they were ushered out by bubbles floating above their heads, kisses, cheers and loving family members and friends. They rode in a limo over to the reception that was held at the Bridgewater Manor in Bridgewater, NJ. At the reception hall, completely at random I heard, “Michael?” and thought to myself, ‘That can’t be Aunt Margaret, they live in Colorado.’ I immediately turned around and was face to face with both my Aunt and Uncle…I guess the phrase “small world” really does apply in this situation. It turns out they were both guests at another wedding taking place in a different section of Bridgewater Manor. The reception was a lot of fun and I really enjoyed taking such detailed pictures of their very cool centerpieces (I of course included a picture in this post…so check it out!). They were such a great couple and truly deserved each other as their love for each either was obvious and the love from their family and friends unconditional.

AHSP “Almost Heaven Star Party”

This year I went to the Almost Heaven Star Party at The Mountain Institute in West VA with my brother Stephen. We were both volunteers which meant we got to spend an extra couple of days up on the mountain before everyone else showed up. I got some great photos of the Milky Way and had a blast spending time with my brother. By the time all the other attendees arrived Hurricane Irene was really hitting hard so it made it difficult for anyone to view any stars the last two nights up on the mountain. However, I didn’t mind and just enjoyed the time spent with my brother and meeting new people. Despite the storm the activities continued through which I met Erin, who I am currently dating and has taken on an active role in my business. Who would’ve thought I could meet someone so amazing in such a random place.

Ocean Storm

I’m at the beach this week with my family and last night there was a really cool lightning storm over the ocean. By the time my camera adjusted to the temperature and humidity I had missed most of the storm but I was able to capture this one! ..and about 30 images of nothing lol. (400iso 30″ f/2.8)

Eden Try Photos

At the Fredericksburg Bridal Show last January it was my good fortune to be assigned an exhibition booth next to Mr. Gary Gratopp, the owner of a reception venue named “Eden Try”. I was to find out that Eden Try is an amazing location anchored by a Georgian Colonial Manor house on 12 magnificent acres just north of Fredericksburg, Virginia. Mr. Gratopp and I have since developed a professional relationship and on Friday, July 29 I was invited to Eden Try to shoot photographs. The gorgeous estates Williamsburg style buildings, architectural details, dazzling colorful gardens and lawns truly made for a photographers dream. I was able to capture not only the older buildings and gardens but the newer additions and improvements which have recently brought even more options to prospective clients. Mr. Gratopp continues to carefully expand partnerships with select vendors to enhance the appeal and possibilities to prospective clients as a premiere venue. I am looking forward to the opportunity of returning to this wonderful venue to work receptions and events. Check out Eden Try’s website http://www.edentryevents.com/.

I even had the opportunity to play with my new(ish) digital infra-red camera which is just an old Nikon D200 that I converted over.

Michele & Wes’ Wedding

Michele and Wes were a great couple who graduated from James Madison University so as you can imagine, the color scheme’s main focus was purple. Michele got ready at her parents home in Manassas, Va. It was extremely hot that day and along with the heat they were worried because the Manassas Sesquicentennial was scheduled to be celebrated that day as well which included re-enactments and large crowds of people so as you can imagine we were expecting a lot of traffic as well. Because of this we took their portraits at a friends house rather than at historic sites in Manassas to avoid any crowds. Ironically due to the heat most activities were cancelled which was nice but the heat really made it for a difficult portrait session. Luckily the friend had a very god AC unit so we were able to jump in and out of the building in between shots. The ceremony was held at the All Saints Catholic Church in Manassas, Va. The reception was held at the Continental Event Center also in Manassas, Va. There was lots of fun, lots of dancing and they ended the night with a sparkler send off which was great and made for awesome photos.
